AMI Stadium celebrates one-year anniversary

AMI Stadium's 1 Year Anniversary

On the 24th March 2013 the Temporary Stadium in Addington celebrated one year of sport, entertainment and community events in Canterbury.

Since the 18,000 seat Stadium opened last year more than 218,000 people have attended an event, including sporting events such as Super Rugby and the ITM Cup, two league games, Nitro Circus, the All Whites and the Phoenix, as well as the Community Open Day, the Student Army Volunteer Concert and a Junior Cricket tournament.

The Stadium plans to host more grass-roots community events this year, as well as the scheduled six Crusaders games and Santana & Steve Miller Band Live in Concert.

The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust granted $5 million towards the cost of building the Temporary Stadium in Addington. The project is being underwritten by the Government, and additional funding support is being provided by the Christchurch City Council and the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU).

As well as major events, the stadium is available free of charge for grass-roots community use such as lower grade sports competitions and community festivals. For more information, see http://www.vbase.co.nz/venues/ami-stadium
